Now, as in the past, we are faced with a climate of increased hostility and increased overt racism. It is crucial that we who are white and concerned about these issues speak up and speak out. This conference provides a positive opportunity for informed dialogue and resulting action in our individual and collective communities. This is a crucial time. For those of us who are white we must do more than just increase our awareness; we must actively take steps for change, working within our own group, developing positive partnerships across groups and be ever-vigilant in the fight vs. oppression. The conference, and subsequent activities, should provide an important lever in the efforts for change.
