OVERVIEW OF SERVICES

The Center provides resources and support to individuals and organizations who wish to prepare and shape the role of white people in our emerging multiracial society. To this end the Center publishes educational material, conducts workshops, lectures and seminars, performs research, consults on managing whiteness within organizations, and brings awareness of current trends and knowledge in the study of whiteness to a broader public.

There are many models under which work for racial change takes place. These include:

  • Diversity
  • Multicultural education
  • Cultural competence
  • Advocacy
  • Reconciliation
  • Justice
  • Dialogue
  • Social change
  • Community-building
  • Organizing

These approaches overlap and we draw from each one.

Our central model is anti-racism

Our services are directly related to our mission of fostering an anti-racist multiracial culture free of white supremacy. We believe any effort to promote racial change must acknowledge that our society is structured by race, and this eat 24 hours coupon structure historically has promoted the interest of one racially-privileged group (white people) to the disadvantage of all other groups (collectively, people of color). This structure continues into our present time and our work is directed toward helping individuals and organizations undo it.

CSWAC offers the following services to individuals and organizations:

  • needs assessment
  • staff development
  • workshops
  • seminars
  • lectures
  • coaching for white affinity groups
  • curricula in the area of whiteness studies

We tailor our services for organizations depending on the nature of anti-racism work already conducted or ongoing in that facility, the time frame available, and the population being addressed. For individuals we offer workshops and seminars and other educational, consciousness-raising, and dialogue opportunities that foster a better understanding of how whiteness, white privilege, and white American culture operate, and what can be done to foster an organization or society based on multiracial values.

CSWAC provides three important ingredients to complement an overarching program of antiracism:

  • information about white privilege and other whiteness issues
  • expertise in delivering the information
  • a track record of successful work on whiteness with organizations and individual learners

It?s not enough to Google ?white privilege? and order some books. While this information itself is widely available, skill and experience are required in presenting sensitive and complex material. CSWAC facilitators are trained in supporting the challenging conversations that must take place as part of the work to dismantle racism, and offering assistance in designing an effective strategy for working toward ending it. We give people and organizations powerful tools, tailored to the needs of your situation.
