Training and Consultation Services

The Center for the Study of White American Culture, Inc., provides training and consultation services to individuals and organizations. Founded over 20 years ago by an interracial couple, Charley Flint and Jeff Hitchcock, the Center today has become a leading-edge provider of training on topics of whiteness, white privilege, and white American culture.

We help you solve the “white challenge”*

If your organization is predominantly white, and you want to be more attuned to the emerging multiracial society, the Center can help you begin. If your service provision or programs of education serve a racially diverse community, the Center can enhance your practice of cultural competence. We supply knowledge and skills that help you identify and work with white organizational culture. If you are managing diversity or beginning a program of anti-racism training, and people are resistant, the Center can help you take the next critical step — managing whiteness.

For individuals who want to learn more about what it means to be white and how you can help create a multiracial society, the Center offers several workshops with open enrollment. We also offer resources through our book publishing arm, Crandall, Dostie & Douglass Books, Inc.

How we do that

We provide staff development workshops and seminars to a number of organizations in which human relations are a key concern, including independent schools, social service agencies, universities, public school systems, professional associations, faith-based organizations and more. We also design and facilitate classes for curriculum providers of cultural competence instruction and of CEUs to professionals.

For individuals, we offer our “What White People Can Do About Racism” series, including workshops on Fundamentals, Raising Anti-racist White Children, Accountability and White Organizing, and Decentering Whiteness.

We are located in New Jersey and offer our workshops to individuals in the greater NYC area. Our practice with organizations typically extends throughout NJ, eastern PA, the Hudson River valley, and eastern CT.

Next steps

Please contact us and tell us you would like to learn more about our services for predominantly white orgnizations who want to look at the white challenge. We prefer to visit with organizations whenever possible prior to training events to learn something about your organizational culture and working environment. If you prefer, we also can provide a standardized introductory training experience as a lower cost option.

*The white challenge is a term for the dysfunctional circumstances which stem from white privilege, white organizational culture, white insularity and Euro-centrism, and which negatively impact organizations and institutions.
